Feeney on Pole for Race 1 at AGP

Published

on

Broc Feeney has taken pole position for Thursday’s race ahead of teammate Will Brown for a Red Bull Ampol Racing front row lockout.

The 15 minute qualifying session was halted around the 10 minute mark due to Shell V Power’s Brodie Kostecki going off at Turn 1 and getting stuck. This forced everyone back to the pits and deleting Brodie’s first lap. With only 3 and a half minutes to go the field rolled out which gave all drivers only 1 lap to improve their grid position.

Qualifying in 3rd position was Matt Stone’s Racing Cameron Hill to show he is ready to battle up the front, less then a tenth of a second behind the Triple Eight boys.

Next to Cam will be Jack Le Brocq who has had early speed around Albert Park.

Despite Brodie going off an causing a red flag, he managed to be the last car to start a lap at the end of the session and he was good enough to qualify 5th. He will start alongside Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne who nailed his first lap of the session prior to the red flag and called it a day, sacrificing a second lap for tyre preservation.

Out of 7th position will be PremiAir’s new recruit Richie Stanaway. The team has been impressive all day so far in the Top 10. James Golding will start out of 9th position.

Andre Heimgartner will lead the BJR team out of 8th place. BJR have all 4 of their cars starting in the top 16.

Rounding out the top 10 is Anton De Pasquale who is still getting to grips more and more with his Team 18 Camaro.

The biggest shock out of this opening qualifying session comes from the Tickford garage with Thomas Randle and championship leader Cam Waters qualifying in positions 21 and 22 respectively. Cam did make a mistake on his lap at turn 8 which is a common mistake, but despite that, the Tickford cars have not been as dominant as they were in Sydney.

James Courtney did not appear in both qualifying sessions due to an accident at Turn 6 in Practice 2.

Qualifying for Friday’s Race will begin in 10 minutes time.

Howard joined Supercars CEO role in Jan 2022

Shane Howard will depart as CEO of Supercars after leading the organization since January 2022.

He will take on a newly-created role within Race Australia Consolidated Enterprises RACE as Director – Motorsport, where he will focus on the strategic evolution of Supercars, including overseeing Toyota’s integration in 2026, engaging with motorsport bodies, and supporting international expansion.

The role will also include a director position on the RACE Board.

Supercars has begun its search for a new CEO, with Howard continuing in the role until a successor is found.

“The demands of motorsport continue to grow, requiring an increasing level of focus and strategic direction. After more than three years as CEO, I believe now is the right time to transition into a role that allows me to focus on the sporting and technical side, which has always been my passion.” Howard explained.

“Shane’s contribution to Supercars as CEO has been outstanding, and his expertise will remain invaluable as we continue to grow the sport.” RACE chairman Barclay Nettlefold explained.

“We thank him for his leadership as CEO and look forward to his continued impact in this new capacity.”

The timing of Howard’s move follows the departure of COO Tim Watsford, who announced last month he would take on the CEO role at St George Illawarra NRL club, leaving two key executive positions to be filled at Supercars.

Brown Cops Penalty for Mostert Qualifying Drama

Will Brown has been handed a three-place grid penalty for Race 7 after impeding Chaz Mostert towards the back end of Qualifying 7 at the Grand Prix.

Both Mostert and Brown struggled in the final qualifying session of the weekend, being both 18th and 24th respectively prior to the incident.

While on a lap, in attempt to move up the grid, Mostert was forced to jump on the brakes, to avoid the slow moving Red Bull, forcing to abandon his run.

“I just stuffed up those first two laps and had to go for a third run, and unfortunately my mate Will Brown out there,” explained Mostert.

“It’s not completely Will’s fault; we rely on communication a lot from our team, and obviously Will had no idea I was on a lap.”

Feeney Dominates Melbourne SuperSprint Qualifying

Broc Feeney makes it four from four in Qualifying at the Australian Grand Prix.

Broc Feeney continued his blistering form in Melbourne, securing pole positions for both Race 6 and Race 7 at Albert Park.

Feeney, who had already shown strong qualifying performances this season, clocked a 1:46.136 in Race 6, edging out teammate Will Brown. He followed that up with a 1:46.238 in Race 7, outpacing Friday’s maiden winner Cam Hill.

“It’s bloody awesome to get four of these this weekend,” Feeney said.

“I was a bit more stressed in that last one, but I’m stoked. Four out of four poles is unreal.”

While Feeney was on top, there was drama in the session for others. Brown struggled, qualifying 18th for Race 7, and was involved in a tense moment with Chaz Mostert. Mostert, attempting a third flying lap, bumped into Brown after coming across him on track. Despite the frustration, Mostert noted, “It’s not completely Will’s fault,” pointing to a communication breakdown.

Other drivers to shine included Matt Payne and Cooper Murray, who secured strong qualifying positions for both races. Race 6 will take place at 5:40pm, with Feeney looking to continue his dominant run.
