LTM sat down with the 11 year old Go-Karter to discuss his career and his aspirations to reach Formula 1.

Billy Dean Goshn, known as the “Young Gun” of BDG Motorsports, is making waves in the karting world at just 11 years old. With dreams of reaching Formula 1, Billy is focused on his journey in motorsport.

Billy began his motorsport journey during the pandemic, transitioning from dirt bike riding to professional go-karting and has been racing four-wheels since last year. Inspired by the Formula 1 documentary hit “Drive to Survive” series on Netflix, he recognized the importance of starting early in pursuit of his dream.

Despite his short career in karting, Ghosn has already made a mark, claiming his first race in at Eastern Creek as well as currently leading his championship.

After a few more years of karting, Billy shared his plans to progress from karting to the brand new and popular, Formula RX8 series when he turns 14, followed by aims to compete in higher categories like Formula 4, Formula 3, and ultimately Formula 1. Shad Hassen, who Billy refers to as “Uncle Shad” currently competes in the Formula RX8 Series in 2024.

Despite being only 11 years old, Billy has effectively utilized social media to promote his racing career, maintaining a presence on platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube under the name BGD Motorsports. He also mentioned recent recovery treatments, including cryotherapy, which he incorporates into his training regimen.

Billy Goshn is a promising talent in motorsport, demonstrating passion, skill, and a strategic approach to his career. His dedication to learning and improving is commendable, and he is definitely one to watch in the coming years.

Karting Australia announces classes ahead of Summer Series

Six competitive classes are set to star in this year’s Karting Australia Summer Series.

Karting Australia have announced the 2024 Summer Series which is presented by GoPro, and will featuring six competitive classes. The series will kick off at the Newcastle Kart Racing Club on October 19-20 and will continue at the Go-Kart Club of Victoria in Melbourne on November 30-December 1.

The Summer Series will showcase the following classes: Cadet 12, KA3 Junior, KA3 Senior, TaG 125, KA2, and KZ2. Each event will span across two days, with racing taking place on Saturday and Sunday. Friday will be reserved for pit set-up, with no on-track action scheduled for that day.

The race format for both events will be unique, incorporating time-certain Sprint and Feature races, along with selected reverse top ten grid races. This innovative format aims to challenge drivers and help them further develop their racing skills.

Karting Australia CEO Kelvin O’Reilly expressed his excitement about the series, emphasizing the historical significance of the venues and the opportunity for competitors to race in a highly competitive environment.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Summer Series to a pair of historic venues in Australian karting and offer competitors an excellent opportunity to race in a highly competitive environment,” said CEO Kelvin O’Reilly.

“With the addition of priority entry into the 2025 Australian Kart Championship and the unique race format, we’re looking forward to providing a valuable incentive for drivers to participate in this year’s Summer Series.”

Participation in both rounds of the Summer Series will offer drivers priority entry into the 2025 Australian Kart Championship. Additionally, drivers who competed in all five rounds of the 2024 Australian Kart Championship will also receive priority entry, providing a streamlined pathway to the prestigious national series.

Supplementary Regulations for the opening event will be available next week, and entries will open shortly thereafter. The Summer Series is set to be a standout event on the karting calendar, offering a valuable chance for drivers to gain a competitive edge for the 2025 season.
