Scott Taylor Motorsport will tackle the mountain once again in 2025 with Supercars Stars, Craig Lowndes, Thomas Randle and Cam Waters in their Mercedes-AMG GT3 in next year’s Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour.

The trio raced teamed up together in the STM entry earlier this year in the twelve hour, finishing seventh overall for their efforts.

Next year’s Bathurst 12hr will mark Lowndes’ 12th start in the event. Lowndes has seen success many occasions with a total of two 12 hour race victories as well as of course, being Bathurst 1000 Champion a incredible seven times.

“We proved this year that we had all the pieces of the puzzle together to challenge for victory.” explained Lowndes.

“Our approach was spot on and to see the #222 car leading the race was great for everyone, especially Scott and Rebecca who put so much into the sport each year.

“I really enjoyed teaming up with Cam and Thomas last year and we are heading back for a second year having proven we are contenders.

“It’s a tough race with great competition and all the usual challenges Bathurst throws up, but it’s exciting to go there knowing you are a shot at winning.”

Similar to this year, the STM squad will continue with support from the Prostate Cancer Foundation, who continue to encourage men to go and get checked.

“To continue to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia is great.” explained Lowndes.

“It’s a cause close to my heart and each year we are fortunate to make an impact on people’s lives by raising funds and awareness by reminding men to ‘get checked’.”

Unlike Lowndes, both Cam Waters and Thomas Randle are yet to taste victory on the mountain with Waters finishing on the podium three times and fifth being Randle’s best result In Supercars, the duo will be determined as ever to change that stat.

“It’s such an amazing race to be part of. It’s going to be a fun weekend and I’m keen to get back behind the wheel for a few test days before we get up there in January.” said Randle.

“We want to take on the internationals and are heading there to win – let’s see what we can do.”

The 2025 Bathurst 12 Hour kicks off earlier than usual next year on 31st January – 2nd February.

Kelvin van der Linde kicked off the first practice session in dominant fashion, setting the fastest time in the #32 BMW M4 GT3 with a 2:02.900 on his sixth lap. The South African driver put the Team WRT-run BMW at the top of the timesheets early, making a strong statement as the Bathurst 12 Hour weekend got underway.

Chasing van der Linde was the #75 SunEnergy1 Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3, piloted by Kenny Habul, Jules Gounon, and Luca Stolz. Stolz delivered the car’s best lap late in the session with a 2:03.214, just 0.314s off the pace. Gounon, a three-time Bathurst 12 Hour winner, had started the session in the car before handing it over.

“When I was the first car and I was driving the straight, I was like, ‘Wow! I’m alone first lap?’ and I said, ‘Hello sunshine, hello Mount Panorama, I hope you are good,’ and I am happy to be back here on your track, it’s just so nice.

I hope I can come many, many, many more years and the event will last many, many, many long years because it’s the best. I love Australia, I love coming to Bondi Beach and having an avocado smash, a flat white with oat milk, we always enjoy it.”

The #888 Team GMR Mercedes-AMG GT3 slotted into third place with a lap 0.521s off the top time, followed by the #46 BMW M4 GT3 of Team WRT, where Maxime Martin made a late-session push to secure fourth. Rounding out the top five was Lucas Auer in the #77 Craft-Bamboo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.

One of the surprise performances of the session came from the #9 Hallmarc Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3, which secured sixth place with Lee Holdsworth behind the wheel.

In the Pro-Am category, the quickest entry was the Tigani Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3, driven by Scott Andrews, while the top Silver entry was Tony D’Alberto’s #11 Wall Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3, which finished 11th overall, 1.3 seconds off the pace.

The 40-minute session ran incident-free, allowing teams to gather crucial early data.
