Vaughan wins chaotic Race 2 at Sandown

Published

on

Brad Vaughan has won the final race of Super 2 competition in Sandown today, leading from start to finish with a 0.8 second victory over Cooper Murray.

In what was a chaotic race with all the action starting from the very beginning as pole sitter Jarrod Hughes unfortunately falling to 5th by the end of lap 1, giving Vaughan the lead and all sorts of action in the mid pack.

There was a safety car at the end of lap 1 as Elliott Cleary who took to the wet grass whilst avoiding an oncoming collision with Max Vidau and Cameron McLeod.

Following the safety car restart, the action at the back of the pack continued as the Super 3 points leader Cody Butcher got sent into the wall at turn 3, but was able to crawl his way back to pit lane. Later on the restart lap Thomas Maxwell and Ruben Goodall made contact at the final corner which caused damage to both cars, ending the race for Ruben and the following lap Thomas ended up losing the tyre from a puncture, slowly making his way back to the pits he got the wheel changed and was on his way.

With 18 minutes to go in the timed 40 minute race, Aron Shields got stuck in the gravel after a lock up at Dandenong Rd, causing the final safety car period for the race.

The last 13 minutes of green flag running saw a battle for the lead with Cooper Murray right behind Brad Vaughan the entire time, pushing the limits to see a well deserved Brad Vaughan take victory for Tickford.
