Zak Best to race at Sandown

Zak Best has gotten a late call up to race in the Porsche Carrera Cup Series this weekend at Sandown with EMA.

Former Super 2 star, Zak Best was and is still set to race at Bathurst in the V8 SuperUtes series but after a last minute deal, he will also make his Porsche Carrera Cup Series debut at this weekend’s Sandown 500.

After missing out on a Supercars co-driver spot this season, he was given the opportunity to have a test with EMA at the Nürburgring back in Late July. And since the test with the Bathurst 12 hour winning squad, it looked promising for the 22 year old’s future in motorsport as he was given a new and “fresh” start.

The last time EMA had competed in Carrera Cup was at Bathurst last October in the hands of Briton Harry King, who clean swept the whole weekend.

“I’m excited to be back in a racecar and to be joining a great category like Carrera Cup,” said Best.

“Joining EMA Motorsport has been great and [we] have this opportunity to build something good moving forward.”

“Sitting on the other side was the first learning curve in adapting to the Porsche. With the rear engine, the set-up’s very different and warming the car is all different, but I am enjoying the experience so far and have had a few test days to get up to speed.”

EMA team manager Marcus Cole expressed his excitement as he shares interest in brining the EMA squad back into Carrera Cup.

“We have been working diligently behind the scenes to return EMA to Carrera Cup this season and we are happy to have come to the point where we can announce that Zak Best will be in the #90 Porsche for Sandown,” said Marcus.

“It’s exciting for EMA Motorsport to work with Zak and get back on track in a bid to continue our run of success in Australia, including the Bathurst 12 Hour and the Bathurst round of Carrera Cup Australia last year.

“The field is as competitive as ever but we know we are up for the challenge and with Zak we have the driver to do the job behind the wheel.”

It is day 2 of the VAILO Adelaide 500 and it is set to be an action packed day with racing finally hitting the streets.

If you are headed down to the Adelaide Parklands to check out the event be sure to watch from start to finish as the Trans Am Practice 2 session will kick things off at 9:05am. They will return for qualifying at 11:10am and have their first race of the weekend in the afternoon at 3:35pm as South Aussie Todd Hazelwood looks to clinch his first championship title in the category.

SuperUtes who also are yet to decide a championship winner kick off the racing sessions with Race 1 starting at 9:40am, followed by race 2 at 2:00pm as Adam Marjoram has taken pole and the championship lead into the first day of racing. There is a 3 way fight for this championship as Marjoram, Borg and Crick battle it out. The trio will start Race 1 from 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Porsche Carrera Cup has already crowned their 2024 champion at the last outing on the Gold Coast in Harri Jones. He will lead the field out for Qualifying at 10:10am and Race 1 at 2:35pm.

Stadium Super Trucks who provided plenty of action on day 1 will suit up for Qualifying at 11:50am, fingers crossed there is less destruction for the teams today as yesterday we saw two of the trucks get destroyed after seperate incidents.

Super2 will take to the streets for two qualifying sessions today 12:30pm and 4:55pm to set the grid for Race 11 and 12 of the season, as they also will crown a champion on Sunday as Zach Bates, Aaron Cameron and Kai Allen duke it out for the title. Whilst there is no Super2 racing today, they will be sure to provide patrons plenty of action as they have two chances to fight for pole position.

Finally, Supercars are on track today twice as they gear up for tomorrow’s race 23 of the year. Supercars will take to the track for a 30 minute practice 2 session beginning at 1:05pm. They will round up the on action with Qualifying for Race 23 at 5:30pm to set the grid for positions 11-24. The Top 10 Shootout will have to wait another sleep as that takes place on Day 3.
